The holy month of Shravan 2023 or Savan is about to begin on 4 July this year and continue till 31 August this year. This is the special month of Shravan continues for almost 2 months after 19 years. The holy month of Shravan or Savan has great significance for Hindus and is dedicated to lord Shiva. Significance of Shravan Month

Shravan is the fifth month of the year in the Hindu calendar. This is an important month in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to Lord Shiva, so people get a chance to seek his grace and blessings. Very important pujas, fasts, and religious programs are organized for the Hindu community this month.

This year Shravan holds a special significance. The unusual 59-day-long Shravan makes this month extra auspicious. According to the astrological calculations and the Hindu calendar, this year the Adhik Maas or Mal Maas has extended the Shravan month this year. 

Kanwar Yatra in Shravan Mass

In the month of Shravan, the Kavad Yatra is performed to praise Lord Shiva, in which people decorate the Shivling with the water of the Ganges. Apart from the Savan Somvar Vrat (fasts) this month dedicated to lord Shiva and Maa Parvati, the Kanwar Yatra is also a significant part of the holy Shravan month. Devotees of Lord Shiva wearing saffron color clothes, carrying water from the holy river in the small pot called Kanwar walking on food to the associated sacred place of Lord Shiva 

Fasting and Worshiping in the Month of Shravan:

Fasting on Monday is the most important fast of the month of Shravan. On this day people worshiping Shivling offer incense, bell leaves, flowers, and fruits. Fasting on Mondays in the month of Shravan is very important because by observing it one gets the blessings of Lord Shiva. This month also there are Mondays of Shravan and pleasant fasting. Apart from this, Shiva is worshiped on the Monday of Shravan.

Rituals & Traditions in Shravan

In the holy month of Shravan, devotees worship Lord Shiva at temples and other associated religious places. They try to get blessings by worshipping Shivaling, bathing in Ganges water, and chanting mantras in the temples. In the month of Shravan, devotees give donations, especially food and materials for meditation to the needy at home. 

Festivals in Shravan Month:

Many important festivals are celebrated in the month of Shravan. Nag Panchami is celebrated at the beginning of the month, during which Lord Sheshnag is worshipped. Then brothers and sisters come to bless each other on Raksha Bandhan. Krishna Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, comes after this. Haritalika Teej is celebrated at the end of the month of Shravan, which is a symbol of good fortune and piety.

Events of Shravan Month:

Many other popular programs also take place in Shravan. In the month of Shravan also there are devotional concerts of Lord Krishna, which unite joy and intimacy. Apart from this, fairs and Jagrans are also organized in the month of Shravan. In these fairs, devotees gather and sing hymns and pray for the blessings of God.
