She is of eight year old. She has three eyes. She has 4 arms with the fairest complexion of all the Durga Shaktis. The above left hand is in Varada Mudra and above right hand has tambourine. The lower left hand holds Trishul and lower right hand is in Abhaya Mudra.  She rides a bull and hence is also known as Vrisharudha.

It is believed that she is the most beautiful and glows very brightly. That’s the reason her name is Gauri. She is known as the 8th and most beautiful form of NavDurga. She is often dressed in a white or green sari and her ornaments are white and clean. She wears white clothes and hence is also known as Shwetambardhara. It is said that when the body of Gauri became dirty due to dust and earth while observing penance. Shiv makes it clean with the waters of Ganga then her body became bright like lightning.

Mahagauri can be seen in a temple at Kankhal near pilgrim Centre Haridwar.

Maa Mahagauri Aarti- Eighth Day of Navratri
